Greetings SMHS 1970 Classmates:

Good news,  our 50th "Better Late Than Never" Reunion party has been scheduled for October 15th and 16th.  

Saturday, October 15:

Noon:  Tour of Santa Maria High.  Meet in front of Ethel Pope Auditorium

7pm - 10pm:  Cocktail reception at the SM Inn Bar and Ranchero Room

Sunday, October 16:

1pm:  SM Style BBQ at SM Inn Cabana Room (veggie option available on request)

Cost is $70 per person.  Payment by check before September 15, 2022.

SMHS 1970 Scholarship Fund

Through the generous support of several classmates, the SMHS Class of 1970 has established a college scholarship fund for graduating seniors.  

Established in 2020, scholarships in the amount of $1,970 were awarded in 2021 to a student who is now studying engineering at U.C. Riverside and in 2022 to a student who will be studying pre-med at UCLA.

In honor of our 50th Reunion gathering, we have set a goal of raising $10,000 to sustain the program for another five years.   

If you would like contribute to the scholarship fund please bring a check to the reunion made out to "Kiwanis For Kids" and write "Class of 1970 Scholarship" in the memo line.  (The administration of the scholarship is being handled by the Kiwanis Club of Santa Maria.)

Yearbook Memories!

Welcome to 1970.  Based on the yearbook coverage, this was the only (possibly first?) female sports team at SMHS!  Somehow they lost to St. Joes in their first game, something team captain, Carol Myers, will have to explain at the reunion.

Thanks to Title IX, the sports picture at SMHS is much different today.

Guys, you have six months to prepare for the reunion and we expect to see some impressive results.

Quite deservedly, Queen Debby and her court also snagged one of the few color shots.

Also new in 1970 was the Ecology Club, which I think mostly planned for the first Earth Day activities on April 22.




The Club obviously did a fantastic job!!
